About the Competition

Despite 2020 being an incredibly challenging year on different levels for teachers and students, Suraasa Teachers were continuously sharing stories of success, growth, achievement and impact on their communities.

The stories have inspired the ‘Suraasa Gives Back’ initiative in line with Suraasa's mission and vision of creating opportunities of growth & recognition to Learners, aiming to celebrate Suraasa teachers and showcase them to the world as the heroes that they are.

Suraasa Teacher Learners were provided with the opportunity to record their stories of success and impact on their and the lives of their students based on 6 criteria: 1. Areas of impact, 2. Type and size of impact, 3. Quality of evidence of the Impact, 4. Clarity of communication and message in the video, 5. Strength of vision and future aspirations 6. Social media recognition and reach.

Out of more than 52 participations, Top 10 impact creators were shortlisted in the first round. The second round of evaluation identified the top three impact creators along with the Creativity Award. The judgements were based on rubrics and taken by Education Leaders and professionals from across the UAE.

Event

The First Teacher Impact Awards event took place virtually on Saturday the 13th of February 2021. It was a celebration of the efforts of all Suraasa teachers and a recognition of the value they added to their and their students' lives in the presence of distinguished school principals and education leaders from across the UAE.

The videos of the Top 10 Impact creators were played during the event for which the shortlisted Teachers were rewarded with an opportunity of being mentored and guided by the Suraasa Team for their future career roles.

Participants voted for the ‘Educators’ Choice Award’ that was presented to Ms. Zeinab Koaik. The ‘Creativity Award’ was presented to Mr. Usaid Baig. Both Ms. Zeinab and Mr. Usaid received a cash prize of AED2,000. Finally, the Top 3 winners were announced: ‘Ms. Reema Burhan’, ‘Ms. Marya Javed’ and ‘Ms. Mary Botros’. The Top three winners were awarded a prize of AED10,000.

Proving to be a highly successful event where Suraasa Teachers were acknowledged, motivated and given the chance to reflect on their own learning and take pride in their achievements; Suraasa Teacher Impact Awards is announced as a recurring celebration of Teachers and the change they are bringing to the world.

The next Edition of ‘Suraasa Teacher Impact Awards’ will take place in June 2022.
