He had spent years teaching English at the same Dubai school, stuck in school tasks and never giving time to his family. Interview and pedagogy work from PgCTL won him a post at a new school, where he tracks assessment data and keeps time for his family.

The first impact was a job.

Bilal Raza sorts what the course gave him into three areas, and he starts with employment. He began PgCTL while at his previous school and was still enrolled when he moved. “Interview skills and pedagogy skills that I learnt through this course helped me a lot in hunting a new job,” he says, “and in building my confidence.”

At the new school he speaks with gratitude about his principal, whom he calls “a keen observer” when she sits in on his classes. “She has not only shared with me positive criticism but also appreciated a lot,” he says, both verbally and in writing. In the video he shares one of the appreciation letters he has received.

Data on every learner.

The second area was his teaching, and it started before the move. He took up new lesson plan formats and modern methodologies, used technology “on the right place during the lesson”, including the interactive board, and gave students positive feedback. He also learnt about assessment and evaluation and the part data plays in it. “Now I can track easily learning engagement and assessment data of all my learners,” he says. His school management recognised the evidence of that work, he says, and he shows feedback from learners “who thank me for helping them throughout the year”.

Time for family, then leadership.

The third area was the balance between work and home. “In past I never used to give such time to my family and always stuck in school tasks,” he says. He has now started to spend time with his family members. After the course, he wants to move up: “I am looking for a path that would help me to become the part of senior school leadership team in the next coming years.”

Now I have started to manage the things quite easily and professionally.

The passion was there. Now the skill is too.

Boniswa had lectured part-time before her first real classroom in Saudi Arabia, where explaining a simple concept could turn into a nightmare and she felt like an imposter.

Three offers. One right choice.

Mary joined the course while teaching in Dubai, wanting a firmer grip on planning and a qualification the schools would recognise.
