Watching her children's classes with a teacher's eye

- Now

- Programme
- PgCTL, batch 18, three months in
- At home
- Children in KG1 and grade 2
Deepthi had always meant to teach, and spent the COVID years watching her own children's online lessons without much idea of what the teacher was doing. Three months into the course she can follow the classroom dynamics and sequencing, and knows which strategies suit which age.
KG1 and grade 2.
“As long as I remember, I always wanted to become a teacher,” says Deepthi Prasanth. She is from batch 18 of PgCTL, and had not started her teaching career when she recorded her story. What she did have was children in KG1 and grade 2, and she found she could relate all her learning to them. The learning theories, and the child development theories especially, helped her in “understanding, assessing and handling my children”, she says. “Now I understand why some strategies work well with certain age groups and why some clearly do not work.”

Her children have been doing online classes since the COVID times, and she has been observing those classes and their teachers ever since. After joining the programme she could relate much better to what she saw: the classroom dynamics, the classroom management techniques, and “how they have sequenced the classes”. She expects the same knowledge to help when her own turn comes. “I’m sure I will be able to jumpstart my career in a much better way,” she says.
Had I not joined this course, I would not have been so confident about my teaching.
