Jayavardhan Reddy
Rebuilding a class around the students in it

- Programme
- A year of online classes on Suraasa
- Classes
- About 30% lecture and 70% workstations, by his account
- Interview
- One of the toughest he has faced
Jayavardhan taught mostly from the front, lecturing his students the way he had once been lectured to. A year of PgCTL classes, where most of the work happened in workstations, moved him to a student-centric class and carried him through the toughest interview of his career.
Thirty per cent lecture.
Jayavardhan Reddy puts a number on it. The online classes he attended on Suraasa were, he says, only about 30% lecture. For the remaining 70%, the people in the class had to go through different workstations, which he compares to differentiated learning. “We had this kind of things which really helped me to think of my teaching style,” he says. He tried to bring the same style to his own students: “Make it as a student-centric class, not the teacher-centric.”
Demo interviews, with feedback.
The interview he faced was, in his words, “a not very easy interview”, one of the toughest among the schools he has worked at. He says the strategies, the feedback and the use of technology from his classes all helped him in it. He also went through demo interviews with Suraasa faculty. “Those were wonderful, actually,” he says. Their feedback set out which points he needed to cover.
Those demo interviews and their insights, they provided the feedback, how should I go through the interviews, how should I go through the demos.
