Rosalie was teaching in Dubai with children at home and a pregnancy ahead, and a friend told her the timing made it impossible. PgCTL's flexibility carried her through: she was among the first in her school to finish every task, and now plans and assesses with Bloom's taxonomy.

A friend’s doubt.

Rosalie, as her friends and colleagues call her, started PgCTL late in the year. She was teaching at a school in Dubai, she had her other children to look after, and she was pregnant. Some people asked how she would manage. One friend told her it was “really not going to be easy”.

Rosalie says she proved her friend wrong. At the time she told her: “I have an amazing teacher, I have amazing team. They are so good and the lessons are flexible, the assignments are flexible.” Her teachers and lecturers, she says, were “so flexible and understanding that I was able to go through the course.” And she kept pace. “I was one of the first batch to complete all my tasks in my school because of the flexibility,” she says. “Even though I’m pregnant, it didn’t become a barrier to me.”

Differentiation is for everyone.

She learnt how to implement Bloom’s taxonomy in a lesson plan, how to execute it, and how to use it in assessing her students. She also learnt that differentiation is not meant only for special education needs but for all students, “because as we are different and unique in our own way, so we like to learn in a different situation.” The use of technology and of feedback were the other lessons she names.

She holds a degree in English language and literature and now a PgCTL certificate. A pedagogy exam is coming soon, and she expects to pass it “in flying colours”, because her colleagues did the same. Now, she says, she is ready for the next challenge, with another organisation or with her own, “depending on where life takes me.”

With Suraasa team I gained a lot that I have not gained in my years of experience.
